“Getting the Bugs Out: The rise, fall and comeback of Volkswagen in America”
Published in 2002, this book looks at the Beetle as the focus of VW’s success in the US. And why not, the air cooled is a timeless classic and for the 2 or so years the New Beetle was on sale before this was written VW was selling more than 100k units a year. But I think calling it a comeback was a bit premature. Total VW sales were still well below the mid 70’s and the high Beetle sales were clearly from early adopters.
With VW’s sales having fallen ~20% since 2012 and now Dieslegate encompassing the group’s three best selling brands, what will the next book he called?
“Volkswagen in America, a true whirlwind German cultural experience”
